European Cultural Foundation

The European Cultural Foundation’s Connected Action for the Commons programme supports cultural initiatives working at the intersection of arts, culture, and commons-based social change. But like many networks supporting social innovation, the programme lacked visibility into its own ecosystem — what organizations were involved, where were they located, how were they actually connected, and what patterns of collaboration were emerging across the network?

Inviable designed and built an interactive data visualization platform that transformed the programme’s accumulated knowledge into an explorable map of cultural commons. Rather than static reporting, the platform creates multiple ways of understanding the network: geographically distributed organizations, thematic clusters of practice, collaborative relationships, and individual organization profiles. The visualization made visible the connective tissue holding the network together and became a tool for discovering unexpected collaborations and shared interests.

This project established our expertise in translating complex network data into visual interfaces that enable exploration and insight — work that has become increasingly central as foundations, networks, and social movements recognize that understanding their ecosystems is foundational to strategic action.
